The Missy team also used my art from the Palm Island hand bags for t-shirts, so that was a fun surprise to see in store. So they took the original icons/elements that I drew and arranged them into t-shirt designs.

The beach towels finally came out! Some match the Palm Island handbags and flip flops, others are a part of our Tropix brand and tie into our seasonal themes like Island Oasis and Splish Splash. A few of these also were made into Tervis Tumblers that I shared on a previous post. Enjoy!

Tropix is Bealls’ outdoor brand for Home. This first group is called Island Oasis and the parrot I drew for it was affectionately nick-named Hank around the office. So look for Hank in our brand new spring program in stores now. ;) Also, just a note – the colors on the web are looking kind of yucky. It could just be my monitor, but these are definitely more pure and vibrant in real life.

This second group was one I actually worked on over a year ago as a freelancer. It was my first project for Bealls’ Home division. My now co-worker Lenny Brinetti actually drew the original flowers for this art group, and I was responsible for taking the print and placing the art on all the items. I had to create different options with placement and trim, as well as design how the sculptural ceramic pieces would look. It’s called Tropical Gardens and is still in stores.

Palm Island has a pretty big program for Spring at Bealls and this was the first project I was asked to work on when I first got hired in house back in April. For as many items as you see here, it’s safe to say there were at least 5 times as many prints/color-way options as you see here before the buyers narrowed it down to the final combos they wanted in stores. So a lot of work, but I’m happy with it for my first big project. :) Here you’ll see the handbags (Large, Medium and Small totes) and flip-flops, but in store you should be able to find the hats as well. Matching beach towels will be out soon, hopefully I’ll get them posted as soon as their online.

Over the holidays some of the prints I did while freelancing and in house came out in our Misses brand – NUE Options. The items below are found in a mixture of Missy, Petite and Plus. Most of them can still be found in store now, but probably not for much longer.
The two cardigans I actually got to help place the artwork in the flat, place the rhinestones/embellishments, and make suggestions for button style. Ultimately the final decisions are made by the buyers, but I had my hands in more than just the art on these.

I designed the artwork on these shirts that you can find at Bealls right now and a portion of the proceeds go to the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation’s efforts to study and restore damaged ecosystems and marine wildlife in the Gulf of Mexico.
These are the Juniors shirts I worked on, you can also shop for them online here: http://www.beallsflorida.com/page?name=page-shop&top=52&major=105&minor=108
And these are the Misses shirts I worked on, that you can find here: http://www.beallsflorida.com/page?name=page-shop&top=52&major=53&minor=56

A year ago I started my first freelance assignment with Bealls Department Stores. They asked me to create a series of Florida icons for their in-house brand Sunbay. They were scheduled to purchase 5 designs, but upon seeing all 10 sketches they decided to purchase 7 finals. Here are the 7 final designs I turned in:
The in-house artists then prepared the artwork in the color palette for that delivery, and the buyer chose which pieces they wanted to purchase. There were different designs purchased for Misses, Petite and Positively Plus. And the artists also created an all-over repeat using the icons, which were used on the 3/4 sleeve shirts.
Here are some examples of the basic v-neck tees that are in stores now:
Positively Plus:
3/4 Sleeve all-over print:
These are just the images I was able to get from the Bealls online store, there may be more versions in-store. Here is a link to the Sunbay section. Keep in mind that this link will eventually expire.

I put together a design for the GBC short term missions trip to Serbia this summer. The line work on the crane got lost a little too much in the final screen prints…I don’t know if that’s just something I need to plan for in the future or if maybe it had to do with white ink on a dark ground. Well no one from church complained, but it’ll still bug me.

The team wore the shirts on Sunday for the Spaghetti luncheon. (It was fun seeing Ray serve food to others!) We could still really use support for the cost of the trip, if you think you might be interested in helping out you can read more about the details at this blog post here: http://otherthingsbyjessica.blogspot.com/2010/03/missions-2010.html
This post is a bit late in coming too, but what else is new?
This was the flyer card I did for Grace Baptist’s Easter outreach this year. The card was handed out at registration on Saturday to let them know the schedule of events, and then the backside was to advertise the new series Pastor had started for Sunday service (and kids church). This was fun to work on, I really enjoyed making the sparkly repeats for the jelly beans. ^_^ Plus the outreach was a huge success! We had over 600 kids on Saturday, and that’s just kids not even counting all the parents. Our awesome videographer/video editor Macky Bowlin put together this video recapping the events. You even get to see Ray in the dunking booth… :P
